Character creation

Introduction

Character creation is as standard Old World of Darkness rules. I’ll just lay out the basics here – for more details, you’ll want to find a sourcebook, such as “Changeling: The Dreaming” or “Mage: The Sorcerer’s Crusade” or what have you.

Attributes

These are basic skills.

  • Physical: Strength, Dexterity, Stamina
  • Social: Charisma, Manipulation, Appearance
  • Mental: Intelligence, Perception, Wits

Each of these starts at 1 dot, and during the initial portion of character creation, you assign points to the 3 areas: 3, 5, and 7 points. For example, you could assign 5 points to Physical, 3 to Social, and 7 to Mental; these may be allocated however you like. For a strong, slow character prone to illness, you could assign 4 dots to Strength and 1 to Dexterity, for total scores of 5 Str/2 Dex/1 Sta.

Abilities

In Talents/Skills/Knowledges, you get 13/9/5 points (again, you pick which column gets which number of dots). Everything starts out at 0 dots. In general, when you roll a dice pool, you roll your dots in the ability + your dots in the relevant Attribute – e.g. for Dodge, you roll Dodge + Dexterity.

Descriptions of these Abilities can be found in the appropriate sourcebooks.

We probably won’t use all of these; we also need to take into consideration how many of them might be relevant in a game incorporating Ancelstierre but not one that takes place solely in the Old Kingdom (e.g. Firearms).

Talents

Changeling: Alertness, Athletics, Brawl, Dodge, Empathy, Intimidation, Kenning (specific to Changeling – perhaps could be adapted?), Persuasion, Streetwise, Subterfuge.

Mage TSC (minus duplicates of those in Changeling): Artist, Awareness, Expression, Instruction, Larceny

Mage TSC Special (only available to certain players with certain classes/backgrounds): Dancing, Intrigue, Invention, Logic, Seduction, Singing

Skills

Changeling: Crafts, Drive, Etiquette, Firearms, Leadership, Melee, Performance, Security, Stealth, Survival

Mage TSC: Animal Ken, Archery, Meditation, Research, Riding

Mage TSC Special: Acrobatics, Artillerist, Do, Fencing, Torture

Knowledges

Changeling: Computer, Enigmas, Gremayre (Changeling-specific), Investigation, Law, Linguistics, Lore, Medicine, Politics, Science

Mage TSC: Academics, Culture, Metaphysics, Occult

Mage TSC Special: Cosmology, Hearth Wisdom, Herbalism, Moneylending, Poisons, Secret Code Languages

  • Allies
  • Arcane (ability to “hide” or fade from notice)
  • Covenant (chantry, fellowship)
  • Cray (this is probably translatable to “Charter Stone” ?)
  • Daemon (not really relevant to this setting)

  • Familiar (not relevant to this setting – unless Mogget would count? Still, Mogget is extremely unusual.)
